Summary: An unexpected return

Loki strolled into the manor and up to the front desk with a wide smile on his face and his old backpack slung over his shoulder. It felt so familiar he almost wanted to go straight on to his old room, but he'd been gone too long. They'd probably given it to somebody else.

But it didn't really matter where he slept anyway. So he leaned against the desk and rang the bell to get a room."

"Versatile is good," Kirby said. "We've got a number of versatile people here. Me, my old colleague, some other people I've met.. It must be a versatile-people-hotel."

She gestured to Joe for a new drink.

"Oh?" made Loki wondering exactly how Kirby interpreted versatile. "I really must meet your old colleague then. Is she as beautiful as you as well."

He'd finished filling in the form and started to fold it into an aeroplane.

Kirby grinned at him. "He was handsome enough when we met and his looks have improved since," she said.

"Can you make that fly to Ms Heerkens' desk now?" she asked, pointing at the plane.

"He? Ah, that is disappointing," Loki lied while wondering vaguely whether it might be worth turning female. In either case, he'd seduced enough women with husbands not to worry about old colleagues. He wasn't looking for a long-term relationship after all.

He glanced at his plane and then the door.

"Not from this angle, unless you could conjure up a convenient gust of wind." Too bad there wasn't a weather god handy.

"I don't do conjuring, and wind can royally mess up your aim if it picks up at the wrong moment," Kirby pointed out. "And just for the record, I have never found him disappointing yet."

"Ah, but you are a woman," Loki sighed theatrically, then grinned. "But of course that is the best of your many admirable qualities."

He'd certainly have to get to know that colleague, he decided.

"What do you know about my qualities?" Kirby wanted to know. She grinned as she said it and her tone was teasing, but she did want to know what kind of a person he considered her.

"Well, let's see," Loki said with a grin. "You're a woman, you're beautiful, you're charming, and it appears unencumbered by any annoying males claiming rights, you're intelligent, appear very competent ... and did I mention you're beautiful?"

Plane and drink sat forgotten side by side on the bar as Loki was too busy gazing into Kirby's eyes.

Kirby smiled back. "You sound like a man with ample experience," she pointed out.

Hm ... How much to admit to?

"Why, you can't expect a man my age to be a virgin, can you?" he said. "I'm not currently encumbered with a girlfriend, though."

Wife? What wife? He hadn't seen her in a long time anyway.

"Not every non-virgin has ample experience," Kirby pointed out. "Though... How would you like to share some of yours? Maybe we can still learn from each other?"

She smiled seductively at him.

"Why of course," Loki said with a wide smile of his own. "In a field like this there's always something left to learn. Shall we use your room or mine?"

"Oh, wait, I still have to land my plane before I can get my key. Yours then?"

"Very well," Kirby said, smiling a smile that almost reached her eyes.

"Mine it is. I'll be expecting you."

"Just tell me the number," Loki said teasingly. "And let's see if I can't be there before you."

Of course he could easily, but changing right here and racing through the lobby on four legs might be suspicious now that he'd already claimed he couldn't in his form. It might be worth it just to see Kirby's face if he was already inside the room when she opened the door ... But then a nice race between friends was always fun as well.

"That's 104," Kirby said. "First floor, left wing, left side. I'd try the window if I was you, I think I left it open. I'll meet you there in an hour?"

"An hour and an open window?" Loki grinned. "That's almost too easy, my dear. I'll be waiting for you."

"But first," he added in a slightly regretful tone picking up his paper aeroplane. "I'd better land my plane."

"Wonderful," Kirby said and stood. He didn't need to know the access ways to her room were rigged to discourage intruders. Let him find out for himself and see how determined he was to get in.
