Summary: Jarod is comptemplating his drink.





Jarod stared into his tea as he contemplated the result of his research on the brand, or the lack thereof. He really hoped the other guy was more successful about it, though secretly - or maybe not so secretly - he doubted it.



Feeling a need for some company, but not necessarily for talk, he had come down to the bar to share the room, though not the bar, with Dawson.

Loki glanced up from his seat at the bar. The new arrival was a stranger. Maybe a god mark? Maybe good company? Either was fine with Loki. He was feeling rather bored at the moment.

"Troubled?"

Jarod looked at the redhead and smiled.

"Just thoughtful," he said. He couldn't remember seeing the other man around before. "Are you new here?"

"Sort of," Loki replied with a slight shrug. "I've been here before, so I'm familiar with the area, but not the current guests."

[jarodrussel]

Jarod ventured a guess.

"So you have business in the area?"

[american_loki]

"I came over from America to meet someone in London," Loki replied truthfully. "And remembered this place from my last stay. Thought I'd check up on old friends, but they all seem to have moved on."

He shrugged. "But then there are new people here. I always like to meet new people. You?"

"Oh yes," Jarod said. "New people are fun to meet. Most of the time. Except when they try to either lock you up or kill you."

Maybe this one wasn't a good mark. Loki decided to treat him with caution.

"Lock you up or kill you?" he said with an easy-going laugh. "What did you do, kill someone?"

"Kill somebody? No. Refuse to help them think up schemes to kill people. Lots of people. I prefer working on the other side and help people not get killed."

"That is usually the safer, but slightly boring option," Loki stated his curiosity stirred. "Who are those people, the Mafia?"

[jarodrussel]

"No," Jarod said. "They call themselves The Center. They're headquartered in Blue Cove, Delaware, if you want to check them out."

He took a sip from his tea.

"But expect that they'll keep you and experiment on you if you come too close."

"Ah, but they'd have to catch and hold us first," Loki said with a grin. "Delaware, you say. Hm ... It just so happens that I have a number of friends that might not consider that too far out of their way. Perhaps I'll mention the place to some of them someday."

It was past time he and Odin got up to some mischief together again, but Loki had to get his check-up over with first and he wasn't tired of Lower Tadfield, yet, so maybe he'd contact some of the other American Gods. Someone was sure to be bored enough to take a look at the place.

"Tell them to be armed well," Jarod said. "And really, don't send anyone there who you'd hate to see dead."

[american_loki]

"Oh, then I know just the guy to send their way," Loki decided.

He did owe Czernobog a comeback, even if almost killing him had been an accident.

"And don't worry. He's really hard to kill."

[jarodrussel]

"I don't want to have the death of more people on my hands, particularly not indirectly," Jarod said.

It was true - he had killed before. But it had always been in his own defence or someone else's.

"Not even of people who experimented on you?" Loki asked surprised. "And are likely to do the same to others that happen to fall into their hands?"

[jarodrussel]

"I'd rather see them in prison than dead," Jarod said. His tone made clear that he actually did feel that way.

"Killing solves nothing - and it does take away every last chance that they might realise that they have been wrong in what they were doing."

[american_loki]

"That ... would require a much more thought out plan," Loki admitted. "But it might be done. You do realise that we'd be running the risk of them escaping or being released at some point, though."

Czernobog would not be the ideal person to send to scout the place then. Perhaps he should contact Odin after all. It ought to be a perfectly safe mission for the ravens.

"Yes," Jarod nodded. "That would be a risk. Still. I am not in favor of taking lives. Even theirs."

Besides which, they were only talking strictly theoretically, weren't they?

[american_loki]

"Well, I'll just tell my brother that they're there and you don't want them killed in that case," Loki decided. "Then he can avoid or watch them as he prefers."

Of course Odin was much too curious not to take a look, but this stranger didn't have to know that.

"Sure," Jarod said. "Also tell him they're not going to have any second thoughts about killing him if they spot him."

[american_loki]

"oh, don't worry, I will," Loki promised.

Not that that was going to make a big difference to Odin's curiosity.

[jarodrussel]

"I still think it would be best to stay well away from them," Jarod cautioned. "But I guess if your friend is the adventurous sort..."

[american_loki]

"He also has ... excellent means of long distance surveillance."

Those people wouldn't randomly shoot or trap ravens, would they?

"Do they shoot at everything that happens to move, then?"

[jarodrussel]

"They have some automatic shooting devices with movement sensors to prevent breakouts," Jarod said. "At least I believe they do. It's been a while since I was back to get someone out."

[american_loki]

"Ah, I'd better mention those then," Loki decided. "And maybe we can get an update on the situation." He doubted the information would outweigh Hugin's curiosity, but he'd be more careful if warned.

[jarodrussel]

"You really mean that, don't you?" Jarod asked. He wished he hadn't said anything, really. Now he might have to go back and get out someone he had inadvertently gotten caught...

"Keep me posted on how it goes in any case. Or if you lose contact with your guy. at any point."

[american_loki]

"Of course I do," Loki told him. "I always mean what I say ... Well, almost always." They didn't call him Lie-Smith for nothing, but right now Loki honestly believed what he was saying.

"And I will, but don't worry so much. My friends have dealt with well fortified places before." And if Odin lost contact with one of his ravens, this mortal would be the least of the perpetrators' worries.

"Say, what's your name anyway? I can't well come here and ask for 'that guy who told me about this stronghold in Delaware', if something does go wrong."

[jarodrussel]

"Jarod," Jarod said. "Jarod Russel. I'll probably be around here for a while to come. This place is... interesting."

[american_loki]

"Interesting?" Loki asked. "How so? I thought it was rather nice and quiet, somewhere to get some rest."

Not that he felt all that much like he needed rest anymore. Ever since he'd gone back and talked about it all with Odin he felt almost as if he had all his old energy back.

"Don't you think there's a lot of strange people here?" Jarod asked.

"And I don't know... I feel like this place has a certain... pull... to it."

[american_loki]

"Strange?" Loki asked. "I've seen a lot stranger at home. But this is England. The English are supposed to be a little stiff and boring, though I suppose that might just be a stereotype. As far as I'm concerned this place is nice, but a little boring. I could use a little more excitement."

[jarodrussel]

"I've seen nothing stiff or boring about this place yet," Jarod pointed out. "And it's such a nice change from being chased and shot at every time I turn a corner."

The latter may have been exaggerated, but it was true. He rather liked being able to relax a little, and someting about this place made him feel right at home here.

"Besides, have you seen the kinds of people who are living here? Nothing boring or stiff about them either. That Kirby, for one..."

"Kirby?" Loki smiled dreamily. "Ah yes, Kirby's entertaining."

But that was just a little fun. He liked the more adventurous pranks he and Odin worked out together when he was in America.
