Summary: Kirby goes trapping

Kirby stole out of the manor before sunrise, a shovel over her shoulder and a book on trapping in her pocket.

She had chosen a good site for her trap days before Now she dug out a good, deep pit. No way would any wolf be able to jump out of it. Then she covered it with branches and leaves to make it look like the ground around it, and masked her scent as the book had described by using natural substances that would cover it without raising suspicion.

She set out bait, then retreated carefully to the manor.

Rose snuck out of the manor. Yesterday that demon had prevented her from changing form and she was determined to get into the woods and onto four legs today. She just needed it, she couldn't stay in two-legged form all the time, pretending to be human. It was like an itch she desperately needed to scratch.

So she went deep into the woods and sniffed the air cautiously for quite some time before she stripped and hid her clothes in a hollow tree. Then she changed into Cloud and yipped once in joy. The next half an hour she just ran through the woods, chasing rays of light and bits of leaves and anything else that looked remotely chaseable just because she could chase something. It just felt so, so good.

The itch went away bit by bit and Rose/Cloud started to feel more like herself. She started paying more attention to her surroundings as well, noticing more than just if someone was close. Lifting her nose into the slight wind she inhaled deeply and let the scents filter through her brain. It was time to go looking some breakfast, her stomach told her by growling softly. And she couldn't stay away from the manor for too long or someone might get suspicious. So a quick breakfast it would have to be and then back to the house.

Shortly after that she caught an interesting scent. Rabbit. Blood. Should she have found an injured animal? That would be an easy kill and a quick breakfast! She crept closer, ears twitching, catching every sound made, nose twitching as well, following the mouth-watering scent. She got closer and closer to the origin of the scent and she licked her lips once.

Rabbitrabbitrabbitrabbitrabbit echoed through her head, making her swallow instinctively. She stopped walking when she finally saw the rabbit, just lying there on the ground. It didn't move, didn't twitch, it was already dead. But the scent told Cloud that it was fresh, couldn't have been dead for long. She decided to just grab the rabbit, take it to a well hidden place and then take a bite to see if she could taste anything strange. If that wasn't the case she'd eat the rabbit for breakfast and be able to return to the manor in time for the start of her shift.

Taking a careful look around and sniffing the air again for foreign scents she then jumped, grabbed the dead rabbit with her teeth…… and felt the ground give way beneath her the moment her paws touched it. She yelped and tumbled down in a chaos of branches and leaves, twisting and turning and trying to get her paws onto something that would stop her fall. She hit the ground hard with her left shoulder and howled in agony as she heard a loud crack and unbearable pain lanced through her shoulder.

Mid-howl she changed into Rose, first screaming and then whining in pain. The rabbit had dropped to the floor when she howled, half-clotted blood staining her lips and teeth, and Rose cradled her left arm to her chest with her right arm. Sitting huddled on the ground, legs drawn up to her body, she waited for the pain to ebb away.

It did get a bit better, but even breathing hurt and her shoulder throbbed. How come nobody ever told her that humans were hunting in these woods? Because the whole situation - dead rabbit, bloody, on some branches on a deep pit – just screamed trapping at her. Such pits didn't just materialise in woods and rabbits didn't drop dean right on top of them by coincidence.

When the pain had ebbed away to a bearable level, Rose tried to get up. She needed to leave, needed to get out of this pit before someone saw her here! But she dropped back to the floor with a howl, followed by whining. Her shoulder hurt like hell with every movement!

Tears were streaming down her cheeks now, the pain overwhelming her, making her curl up into herself, close to the wall of the pit, whining. She didn't know how long she stayed there, losing track of time in her pain. She tried to get up several times, thinking that at some point she should manage, but she failed every time, the tries only making her pain worse.

The light had shifted considerably when she began to feel cold. Soon after shivers were wracking her body, making her whine louder as the muscle spasms intensified the pain. She was feeling so cold and so tired...
