Date/Time: 19th May, midmorning
Location: The woods (off the manor grounds)
Status: Private (Rose, Raphael and probably later Belial)
Summary: Would you care for a walk?

Rose was slowly walking towards the edge of the woods. Still troubled by the events and revelations from two days ago she had offered Raphael to walk with her through these woods today and she hoped he'd come. She wanted, no, she needed to talk to him...

Raphael hugged her warmly. "Good morning, my friend," he smiled. The mist in the air seemed to make her hair glitter, as if they were tiny diamonds.

He pulled away and held out his elbow for her to take. "Shall we?"

"No, you haven't." He knew that Rose's trust in him had been somewhat forced -had he not found her that day he knew she would not have told him. Raphael wondered if she ever worried that he would slip up and say something, and he wished he could ease that fear. Even when completely intoxicated he knew he would never betray her.

"I was curious," he admitted. "But I didn't want you to feel you had to tell me." And for the countless time that day, he caught himself trying to wrap a wing around only to find it no longer there.

As Rose was telling her story Raphael found himself irresistably drawn to comfort her. His heart ached atthe horror she must have felt at finding her family with dead. The nightmare of Gabriel being dead had been traumatic but that had been a dream. For Rose, it wasn't something she could wake from... It was real.

He brought his other hand to come on top of hers, willing himself not to speak just yet, but his eyes said it all.

I'm so sorry, Rose... I'm so so sorry...

At that, Raphael couldn't help but turn and pull her into a tight embrace. Rose had been carrying such a painful burden this whole time, this whole time, and he...

He had been so selfish...

He knew saying things like "It was be okay", or "Things will get better" wouldn't help any. She had truly lost family. Someone had betrayed them and... and...

I have been so so selfish...

He lightly stroked her hair, trying to be comforting as her memories resurfaced. "It's okay, take your time. I have all day..."

Raphael felt his protective instincts shoot up and suddenly all he wanted to do was protect her. He had, at one time, been the Angel of Lovers and thus mating rituals were familiar to him. Or rather, they had been before he intentionally surpressed his knowledge of such things. After hearing this, he found he did have questions but he set them aside, lightly stroking her hair affectionately, silently trying to reassure her as best as he could.

Wings were good for such things, he realized.

"Did he hurt you...?" he found himself asking before he could stop it. Raphael did understand it would not have been her twin's fault -instinctive nature was quite strong, after all- but he couldn't help that strong desire to know she hadn't been... Well...

He pulled her into another hug.

How could I have been so selfish...?

I am so sorry it took so long to post this!

Raphael's embrace tightened as she told her story, and his blood chilled to ice upon hearing that murder had been committed in the name of his Father.

Now Rose was alone. She was separated from her pack and he knew that pain. He knew what it was like to be cut away from the home you loved.

He closed his eyes, rubbing slow circles on her back, trying his best to come up with something to say but mere words did not seem to be enough. His friend had been hurting all this time and yet, she was still so strong...

"Rose...?" His voice was raspy and barely a whisper but he knew she would be able to hear it. "When... That day that I found you injured... You seemed so afraid of me. I'd always thought perhaps it was because I had discovered your secret. But... Did it have anything to do with that man claiming to be doing the 'Lord's work'?" He chewed his lip a moment before continuing to speak. "Rose... It... It isn't. They were wrong. They were wrong. Father loves. Sometimes he teaches us, and it hurts, but what happened to your family... Oh Rose, I am so so sorry..."

He held her tightly against him.

I will protect you, Rose... I promise...

He lightly stroked her hair, his heart aching for his friend. "I won't say a word, Rose." He had promised her this many times before but he would say it as many times again. "They would have to get through me first. I won't let anyone hurt you."

Not that that would have been much to comfort her. Even in full-strength he would be no match for the Warrior of God. But he meant it... He would die before he let anyone harm her or her pack again.

I love your new icon!

Raphael held her close. After awhile, he pulled away a little and looked around. It was a beautiful day and they were far enough away from the manor.

He smiled at her. "Would you like to... I mean, if you would like that sort of thing..." He showed her a fuzzy red ball that he had tucked into his robes. "And afterwards, I could brush you. If you like?"

Raphael's smile broke into a grin. He took the ball in his hand, pulled back and let it fly to land between two trees still shining with dew.

Raphael gripped the ball, laughing as he tried to pry it away from her teeth so that he could throw it again. He moved to his knees, playfully wrapping an arm around Cloud's soft middle and bracing himself for a wrestle, still holding the ball with his fingers.

right now, there was nothing to fear, nothing to regret...
There was only unfiltered laughter, pure joy and shining eyes...

There is a friendship rooted in deep trust, a trust he will never break...

He grins mischievously as he frees the ball and throws it, a little further this time.

Raphael had chased after her at the last throw and when she brought the ball back he laughed again and playfully tackled her, dropping to his back with arms full of fur.

The leaves and brush stuck to his hair and clothes but he didn't care, only threw the ball again and feeling so very happy.
