Gabriel talks to Daniel/Dream

Summary: Gabriel is led by Matthew to the Dreaming, where he talks with the Lord of Dreams.

 

A light frown, a focusing of will, and he was in the Dreaming.

  Gabriel walked up to the gates of the palace at the centre of the Dreaming, taking in the changes Daniel had made. Everything seemed familiar, and yet different in some way. A light breeze stirred his robes and the feathers on his wings, the scenery in the distance seemed almost to ripple slightly, and he remembered how much he had enjoyed working with Morpheus. He paused before the wyvern, griffin and hippogriff. The griffin, too, was new, he noticed, but the other two most likely knew him by now.  

"I am Gabriel, Messenger of God, and I come here at the request of your master." 

  They let him enter, and he followed Matthew to the throne room, bowing before the throne.

  "Good afternoon, Lord Dream." He had asked Gabriel to call him Daniel, but Gabriel wasn't too sure if it applied to slightly more formal situations, or whichever this was.

"Killing everyone is the worst that will happen. If the other option is the destruction of the dreaming though then it is a necessary evil unfortunately."

Daniel stopped and the world around them stopped with him. In front of him great bolts of lightning struck out from a void gouging chunks out of the landscape. The sky above looked like it had been stretched down into the void as if being consumed but now motionless.

"This is the problem here. You can't really see but the dreaming is being slowly eroded by this. I can afford that for a short time but no more."

"And shared dreams are plausible. It is possible that the dream bubble is chaotic and that there is not much separation between the dreams. I would be cautious in case it happens again."

"And I don't know what this might culminate in. I still don't fully understand what might have caused it. I am starting to suspect that there is something controlling the effect. Its growth seems to be somewhat unnatural. I would have expected it to have grown and perhaps even burst by now but it hasn't."

Gabriel's lips parted slightly in shock as he stared up at the - he had no idea what to call this. Erosion? Boundary?

"Who could do this to the Dreaming?" Who could pose such problems for Dream himself?

"I'll keep an eye on things, and try to get a message to you if anything abnormal happens," he offered.

"I had at one time thought it might be a natural phenomenon. Such things occur from time to time and my thoughts were that in my adjustments I had missed something. The way it is progressing seems more like there is somebody or something powerful controlling its expansion. There are no entities that should have the power or skill to do this though..."

Daniel turned away from the rip in the dreaming to face Gabriel. "Do let me know. The alternative is one I would do almost anything to avoid."

Gabriel nodded, biting his bottom lip in thought. "I will. I'll take the same route Matthew brought me by today, then, if I cannot simply get here from the Manor. Is there anything I should be watchful for?"

"Be watchful for whoever might be responsible or anything that might give me a way in. I cannot tell you any more than that what to watch for though. Good luck," he paused, wondering if it was appropriate and then decided it was, "friend."

There was already a rather strange mix of guests at the Manor, so Gabriel would simply have to be extra watchful.

His eyes widened slightly. The Dream Lord had just called him friend? A small smile played about his lips, despite the situation. Evidently Daniel was less aloof than Morpheus.

"I wish you the same, my friend," Gabriel smiled, bowing his head slightly before leaving.
