Summary: Rose starts working by cleaning the hallways

Her first night here hadn't been too bad and Rose reckoned she should start earning money. So she used the existing supplies, namely a bucket with water and a cleaning solution and a mop, to scrub the hallway floors, starting on the ground floor and moving upstairs. She wanted to do this properly. No use in getting fired her first day...

Rose nodded eagerly, maybe this could be fun. Winning certainly was. She took the dice and threw them again. This time she got 1, 2, 3, 6, 6.

"Well, I suppose beginner's luck doesn't really last..."

She shrugged, sipped her water and waited for Loki to throw the dice.

Loki tossed his dice.

2 - 3 - 5 - 4 - 2.

"Nope," he said. "You win again. Except that some play with a 'short' straight, which only has four numbers in rising succession. We didn't specify that in advance, though."

He pushed the dice at her again. "So what did you play at home?"

Rose's eyes shone with delight. She'd won again! She took the dice and threw them again. 1, 3, 5, 2, 6. Well, that was practically nothing. She sighed and pushed the dice at Loki.

"Your turn. And we mostly played outside. Sometimes with a frisbee, sometimes just running around, enjoying the sun on our skin."

6, 5, 1, 1, 4.

"You're right," he said. "I win, though with almost the lowest possible winning combination ever!"

He grinned apologetically. "What's a frisbee?"

Well, she had knwon she didn't have a chance of winning with that combination. Soe she shrugged it of.

"You don't know frisbees? They're fun. A frisbee is a disc made of plastic, and the rim is curled up. You throw it and another player tries to catch it. He throws it... and ever so on, as long as you want to play."

She took the dice and threw them again. 1, 1, 2, 3, 3. Maybe it'd be enough.

5, 4, 2, 4, 2

"I win, because mine are higher", he said. "And no, I've never even heard of a frisbee. Did you bring one? We were playing some paintball last week, though."

He indicated for her to take the dice again, and for the barman to refill his cup.

"Seems the beginner's luck is truly gone now"

Rose sighed.

"And no, I didn't bring a frisbee. But maybe a shop in town sells them? What is paintbal?"

She took the dice and threw them again. 1, 4, 6, 4, 4.

"You have guns loaded with paint-bubbles, and you try to hit the other team and avoid getting hit yourself. It's a bit like playing tag."

6, 6, 5, 6, 5

"Full House. I win."

"Guns?"

She blanched and shivered once. Guns were linked to bad memories, memories she certainly didn't want to ponder now. So she practically stomped the memories back down where they belonged and continued in a slightly confused tone.

"Why would you shoot paint? Why not simply play tag?"

She threw the dice again in a rather distracted way. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. A straight. Maybe her luck was back.

He noted her reaction and made a mental note of it as he tossed the dice again.

6, 2, 2, 1, 5.

"Lucky," he told her. "I guess grown-ups don't play tag the traditional way anymore. And also, that way everyone gets to be 'it' at the same time. And it would be unfair, if someone ground-bound like I had to play tag against librarians with a set of huge wings."

Rose smiled. She'd won again.

"Tag can be fun in the traditional way" Especially if you're running on four legs, tweaking the tail of your twin... Maybe Loki was right and normal adults thought tag to be boring. His last sentence caught her attention though.

"A librarien with huge wings? Does that mean the librarian is an angel?"

She threw the dice again, waiting for Loki's answer. 5, 3, 2, 4, 4. Not good.

6, 4, 2, 1, 4.

"That one's mine, because we both have two fours, but I have the higher other number," Loki explained. "It was a close thing, though. And yes, the librarian is an angel."

Rose sighed. She'd lost again.

"Do you know that angel well?" she asked, curious to hear more about these beings. She took the dice again and threw them: 4, 2, 1, 3, 4. Again, not good.

"Didn't you have that once already?" Loki asked. "And I don't know - I've only met him last week, so I don't really think you could call that knowing him well. Why?"

Rose shrugged.

"Maybe the dice like these numbers? Who knows.

And I guess I'm just being curious, I've never met an angel."

"They have wings and can use them to fly. Same goes for the demons, I guess, though I only met one of those yet. He's quite a nice guy."

He rattled the dice in his hands.

"If you want to meet an angel, it seems that Gabriel can mostly be found in the library."

Did she want to meet an angel? Not particularly. But living in this house it might be inevitable.

"I'll keep that in mind, thank you."

Rose looked at the dice.

"Are you waiting for something? Or do you not want to continue?"

"Nothing in particular, no," Loki said and tossed the dice.

1, 3, 1, 1, 2

"Three of a kind. I win," he said. "You do not seem overly thrilled at the thought of angels. I thought they were supposed to be the good guys around here?"

And Loki had won again. Rose grumbled a bit. Why couldn't her luck last? She threw he dice again. 2, 3, 2, 2, 6.

"I haven't met any angels yet. How should I know if I'd like to meet them? Just because someone's supposed to be the good guy, as you so nicely put it, doesn't mean he is."

5, 5, 4, 5, 3.

"Mine again," Loki said. "Your beginner's luck is running out."

He gave her the dice again.

"And while you're technicall right, I believe in their case, it goes with the job description."

"Seems like it, doesn't it?"

Yes, it definitely looked like she was running out of luck. Still, she didn't give up and tossed the dice again. 4, 6, 4, 4, 4. Not so bad. She handed the dice back to Loki.

"And maybe. I guess I'll find out if I ever meet one of them" Which can wait, as far as I'm concerned.

"You throw too many fours for my taste," Loki said, but tossed his own dice anyway.

5, 5, 5, 5, 1.

"Not that it helps any." He grinned. "As for the angels, with the way they seem to be everywhere around here, I don't really think you will be able to help meeting them.

Rose looked at the dice and shrugged.

"Those are yours. You tell me why they insist on the fours... And my luck really seems to be running out. Completely. So maybe I should get back to my job, before Mary Hodges gets displeased. I want to keep my job for the moment."

She winked at Loki.

"And if I meet an angel I meet an angel. We'll see."

"As you say," Loki told her, settling back and very obviously not intending to go anywhere. "If you must get back to work you must. I'll be around if you want to play another round."

"Thank you for the nice break. And for teaching me this game. It's more fun than I thought it would be."

Rose smiled at Loki and got down from the stool.

"Have a nice day."

Her voice was cheerful and Rose really looked forward to meeting that guy again. Maybe a game of cards would be fun as well? Or she could go into town and buy a frisbee sometime soon. Then show him a game. Of course, it won't be that much fun on only two legs, but it might still be nice...

She left the bar and went back to cleaning the hallways.
