For a brief moment, the Sphinx froze. “In the gardens?” she repeated. “Here?”

It was possible, of course, that a hero could have slipped her notice. They were sneaky bastards, really – they always did the unexpected, prevailed where no one else could.

“Well, I… well.” She took a breath, and did her best to regain her composure; even though she was still caught off-guard and very much aware of it, at least she could pretend there had never been such a moment.

“It is… possible. Friendly, you say? It might be an act.” After all, it was not unlike for heroes to pretend to be something they were not; what they couldn’t achieve with brute strength, they did by cheating. The Sphinx narrowed her eyes. “Do you have any idea who might have sent him?”
