Without thinking Jan instinctively stopped out of sword's range then immediately berated himself for the mistake. It would have been wiser to just walk on. Even if Benjamin were meaning him harm he couldn't attack on holy ground and they'd agreed to avoid each other. The only effect moving on now would have was to betray fear, though.

"Morning," he greeted with a glare. "Come to spy on me?"
