Summary: Anubis checks in

Anubis looked up at the Manor, it was a lot nicer then most of the places he stayed in on his trip round Europe. Perfect place to rest up before moving on, and hay if things proved interesting he could always hang around a while, after all he wasn't in a rush. Shifting his bag he made his way up the steps and through the door.

Most people didn't have breakfast in the late afternoon, but then most people weren't the Archdemon of Sloth. Belial was still feeling a little lethargic as he made his way to the restaurant, via the lobby.

At the sound of the door opening, he turned to take in the newcomer. He frowned; the man's face looked vaguely familiar. No, not man. God. Memories surfaced; he'd fought side by side with this god. A smile began to break across his face.

"It's been a while, Anubis," he called, walking briskly towards the door.

Rose looked up from the reception desk when the door opened. A strange smell of dog hit her nostrils and she inhaled cautiously. The man standing there didn't seem to have a dog with him.

Before she could greet the new guest, Belial already walked towards him, greeting him. Seemed he knew the newcomer. Hopefully that man wouldn't frighten Raphael as well.

"Good," Belial grinned. "Travelling, enjoying life's little pleasures... you know me. What about you? What brings you to England? And how is Ammit?"

Belial nodded. "Well, if you want to rest for a while, this place is quiet. And lodging is free, for you, as long as you promise to be a good jackal."

Rose's ears twitched. Had Belial called the stranger a 'good jackal'? He didn't look like a jackal. Not that she knew exactly what a jackal looked like, but that guy looked quite human.

"You quite liked the ear rubs, as I recall," Belial grinned widely, draping an arm around Anubis. "Welcome to Tadfield Manor. Care for a drink after you've gotten yourself a room?"

"Come on, then," Belial grinned, leading Anubis to the counter and nodding in greeting to Rose.

Jackal form? The stranger could change form? Now Rose was curious as to what he'd write in the form.

When both men approached the desk, Rose smiled and greeted them.

"Belial."

A small nod of her head. She didn't like the demon but that didn't mean she could be impolite to a guest of the manor. She turned to the stranger.

"Welcome to Lower Tadfield, sir. I'm Rose Heerkens. How can I help you?"

"Nice to meet you, too."

Rose smiled at the stranger with teeth hidden behind her lips.

"We have three different kind of rooms, sir. On the first floor the rooms are quite big and have a king size bed and a bathroom with a bathtub. The rooms on the second floor are slightly smaller with only a single bed but still have a tub in the bathroom. And the rooms on the third floor have a single bed and a bathroom with a shower in it. Those are the smallest rooms but they have a nice view.

What kind of room would you prefer, sir?"

Belial had to hurriedly disguise his snicker, turning it into a cough. He cleared his throat.

"A room with a shower it will be. Would room number 303 on third floor be alright?"

Rose had checked the list of occupied rooms and that one was still free. Not many people had rooms up there at the moment. She took a form (http://mitglied.multimania.de/rickyzehrer/The%20Tadfield%20Manor%20Hotel.pdf) from the folder and handed it to the new guest.

"Please fill in this form, sir."

Well, seemed the newcomer didn't like Belial all that much either. Rose smiled at the man and handed him a pen from her desk.

"Here, take this one."

Then she went to the board where all the keys were and took the one for 303 down, keeping it in her hand for the moment as she returned to her desk.

Rose sat down at her desk again and waited patiently for the new guest to finish the form. She just ignored the grinning demon. As long as he didn't directly address her she didn't feel obligated to talk to him.

Belial certainly wasn't forgetting that anytime soon; the mental images were far too entertaining, for one. Besides, he always liked having information about someone.

The feel of Anubis's aura brought back memories of sun and sand and pyramids and the Nile, of the scent of papyrus flowers and incense. He missed Egypt; he'd have to go back there one day, though it would never be the same as it had been in the days of the Pharaohs.

He wondered how Anubis and the rest of his pantheon felt, if a visitor felt this much, but he wasn't about to ask.

Rose checked the form, then entered the number of the chose room and filed the document away for the moment. Smiling up at Anubis, she handed him the room key.

"No, that's all for checking in. Here's your room key. I can show you upstairs to your room if you'd like.

One thing's left though. As several of our guests prefer their privacy we don't enter occupied rooms unless invited. If you want your room cleaned, you need to put a sign on your door. You'll find the sign on the door handle on the inside. One side of the sign is the usual 'Do not disturb', which is somewhat self-explanatory, and the other side shows a bucket and a mop. If you put the sign on the outer door handle with the latter side showing, I'll come clean your room. As soon as I'm done I'll put the sign back on the door handle inside."

He made his way towards the bar.

A scent to follow? Rose was intrigued. This new guest seemed to be interesting.

She walked around her desk and to the stairs, then turned around to Anubis.

"If you'd follow me please, sir?"

"I don't want to seem rude or something, sir, but did you tell Belial that you'd find him by following his scent?"

"It's just unusal, you know. Humans's noses most certainly wouldn't be sharp enough to find someone by their scent. So I'm intrigued."

They were still climbing stairs and she looked back at him over her shoulder.

"In case you like to go hunting in your other form you might want to know that some inhabitants have pet animals that are not to be harmed."

Me neither she thought but didn't voice aloud. It might be interesting to know if his sense of smell was as finely honed as hers or even better. But to find that out she'd need to tell him what she was and that wouldn't happen.

"I know, but I've mostly had contacts with humans in my life. At least before I came here and met angels and demons and so on..."

Well, she'd met more humans than wer, but only in numbers, because she had spent most of her time with the pack. And of course she'd met Henry.

When Mr. Delta told her he was a scavenger her brow furrowed.

"A scavenger? Isn't that boring? And isn't prey best when freshly killed?"

Sure, she couldn't always hunt fresh food when she was hungry, but just the tension of a hunt, the rewarding feeling of a kill...

It sounded like he had led a pretty pampered life until now, being served food by priests and so on. Still, she'd always prefer hunting for herself over being served something someone else had hunted. She wanted the fun of the hunt, the thrill of the kill...

"What do you normally do all day that consumes so much of you time that you can't go hunting?" she asked, genuinely curious.
