Someone left SOMETHING in my bar!

Summary: Joe finds Ishtar's leftovers

Joe came down to the bar whistling softly to himself. He had slept comparatively well the last night and was therefore in a rather good mood.

His eyebrows went up as he saw that someone had left a box on one of the tables.

Someone had scrawled a message on it in red - lipstick?

Uppers, downers and shake-em-all-abouters.
Help yourselves.
Ishtar.

A glance inside showed him an assortment of things that he doubted were legal. Now what to do with them? He certainly would not leave them where someone could find them. the right thing to do probably would have been notifying the authorities.

Something, however, stopped him. He had the impression that bringing down a drug raid on the manor was not the wisest thing to do.

He moved over to the dust bin to dispose of the box there for the moment.

"Well, it wasn't that bad," Duncan added quickly. After all, he had no scratches to sport anymore now. Neither had Atlan, thanks to his Methuselah's stone.

"Oh dear. I apologise on behalf of Raphael and his bunny. And I'll remind him to come to get it from you." Gabriel turned to Duncan. "Would you like me to heal the scratches?"

McLeod looked at Gabriel quizzically. Since the other angle had already left and Joe, of course, knew all about him, at least he didn't need to make up excuses for Gabriel.

"I thought you know what I am," he said.

Gabriel blinked for a moment before remembering. "Oh, yes, they would have healed by now. My apologies. I've been a bit distracted lately, what with Raphael's condition."

"Quite understandably," McLeod said. "Just - Most people here don't know what I am, and I believe it's better that stays that way. People tend to react oddly, you know."

Gabriel nodded. "I understand. Though considering the other beings here, I think the angels at elast would be unsurprised."

"Not everyone here is an angel, though," Duncan pointed out. "I think that girl Rose might be apalled to learn about immortals and such. Better not risk anything."

"You have a point," Gabriel nodded. She had seen the angels in armour with their wings out... still, she didn't know of immortals.

Duncan nodded. "Though it's getting hard to tell who in this house is or isn't something other than they seem," he pointed out, thinking of the man who wore a Methuselah's stone. Hard to tell just what he actually was.

Gabriel tilted his head. "Anyone in particular you're curious about?"

Duncan shook his head. "I just meant some people may look ordinary and not be it. Or appear more than they are, too."

Gabriel smiled. "That would indeed describe most of the guests here, I think, and most of the beings I've known. It keeps things interesting, I'd say."

Duncan laughed. "You bet it does!" he said. "And I was hoping for a nice and quiet vacation!

The Messenger grinned back. "So was I!"

"Well," Duncan said, "We don't anlawys get what we want, right?" he held out his glass to Joe for a refill.

Gabriel shrugged. "C'est la vie, I suppose." He sipped his wine. "How long will you be staying?"

Duncan shrugged. "Until I feel bored enough to needlessly engage in duels and the like again. Maybe for a long time."

Michael had come there to persuade Adam to start Armageddon, hadn't he? Gabriel bit his lip. "I hope you do get to stay here for as long as possible, then. A rest is always nice."

Joe watched his friend closesly. One couldn't exacty say that McLeod went looking for trouble - trouble just tended to go where McLeod was. It might have something to do with the Game, of course.

Duncan considered pushing his glass in Joe's direction for a refill, but decided otherwise.

"Would you excuse me then?" he asked. "Some exercise can't hurt and I haven't been for a good run yet today."

"Of course. Enjoy yourself," Gabriel smiled. "I should probably go, too. I need to feed the cats."

Draining his glass, he set it on the bar. "Thank you," he said to to Joe.

"You're welcome," Joe said, took the glass and dropped it into the dishwater. This Gabriel promised to become one of his best customers...

Gabriel nodded to him and left the bar, heading up to his room. Earl Grey had been asleep on Gabriel's pillow, but he woke up and ran to the door as Gabriel opened it, and the angel smiled and picked him up. Ta-Miu stretched, yawned and approached at a more leisurely pace, but did deign to rub her head against Gabriel's leg affectionately.

With a fond smile on his face, Gabriel refilled their food and water dishes and changed the contents of their litterbox as they ate. He spent a little more time with the cats before leaving for the library.

Duncan looked after Gabriel. "Can I give you a hand with the cleaning up?" he asked Joe.

"Weren't you going to get some exercise?" Joe asked Duncan with an eyebrow raised.
