"Well, I can't say either of you has been very convincing with his excuse," he informed Gabriel. "But I have what I need from you," he lifted the hand that was holding the bottle of pills. "And I have things to do, so good night."

He walked out the door intending to go to bed, but thought better of it and headed for the attic instead. At least that was still safe from intruders.
